  1. Inter extends Serie A lead to eight points with Cremonese victory

    Inter Milan defeated Cremonese 2-0 on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of Serie A to eight points, though the match was marred when an Inter fan threw a firecracker that nearly hit Cremonese goalkeeper Emil Audero. The incident caused a brief stoppage but Audero suffered only minor injuries and was able to continue playing.

    Following their Champions League elimination to Chelsea, Napoli coach Antonio Conte says the injury-hit team must now concentrate on defending their Italian league title.     German forward Niclas Fullkrug scored his first goal for AC Milan in a 1-0 win over Lecce on Sunday, keeping the club three points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan. Fullkrug, on loan from West Ham United, headed home Alexis Saelemaekers's cross in the 76th minute.

  1. BBC reports thousands killed in Iran's violent crackdown

    Iranian authorities have violently suppressed widespread protests that began in late December over currency devaluation and escalated into calls to end Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's rule. The US-based Iranian Human Rights Activists News Agency has confirmed at least 2,400 protester deaths, including 12 children, over three weeks, with the deadliest violence occurring last Thursday and Friday as security forces shot demonstrators across all 31 provinces.
