Namibia's charcoal industry is growing as an important part of rural economy, creating employment and export income, but raises questions about how to develop the industry without harming the natural environment. Properly managed bush harvesting can address bush encroachment while creating economic value, but requires government, producers, farmers and environmental organisations to manage potential negative consequences of uncontrolled production.
