Ethiopia fighting kills 52 civilians in Tigray escalation
At least 52 civilians have been killed during three days of heavy fighting around Alamata in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region, with government troops appearing to have taken control of the town and intending to push north towards Mekelle. The clashes broke out after months of tension between the government and the party controlling Tigray, and fighting has also stranded 33 tourists in the UNESCO world heritage site of Lalibela.
