  1. Veteran liberation struggle hero Erkki Nghimtina dies aged 79

    Erkki Nghimtina, a former minister who fought in Namibia's liberation struggle and later headed the Defence, Mines and Energy, Works and Transport, and Labour ministries over a 25-year political career, has died at his home in Ohangwena Region aged 79.

  1. President honours Nujoma and Geingob at Heroes Acre ceremony

    President Nandi-Ndaitwah paid tribute to Namibia's Founding President Dr Sam Nujoma and former President Dr Hage Geingob at a candlelight ceremony at Heroes Acre, describing them as "two giants" whose leadership laid the foundations of the nation's freedom and development. She called on Namibians to preserve their legacies by defending independence, promoting national cohesion, and building a just, inclusive society.

  1. Educationalist and former PLAN commander Juuso Shikongo dies at 72

    Juuso Panduleni Shikongo, a 72-year-old educationalist and former People's Liberation Army of Namibia commander who owned a private school in Ongwediva, died on 27 January and will be buried Saturday in Okambala. He was the commander of PLAN's Onalumono base, which was attacked during Operation Kropduif in 1977, and later became a school principal and established the Nekulilo Omagano Memorial School with his wife.

  1. PDM leader proposes investment fund for war veterans

    PDM leader McHenry Venaani has suggested the government create an investment fund rather than spending roughly N$2 billion annually from the national budget to pay war veterans, struggle kids, and SWATF members. Venaani also called for intra-national dialogue to resolve pre-independence compensation matters involving various veteran groups who have been seeking government recognition and benefits.
