Bukalo Village Council tackles infrastructure and service delivery challenges

The News

The Bukalo Village Council is addressing long-standing challenges including inadequate sanitation, water access, housing shortages and safety concerns through targeted infrastructure upgrades and institutional reforms. The council has upgraded sewerage systems, improved water reticulation, allocated 500 housing plots with materials distributed to 200 beneficiaries, and undertaken a debushing exercise to reduce theft and housebreaking in the settlement.

    House building has begun in Outapi after 173 residents received Land Hold Title certificates under the Flexible Land Tenure System. The initiative provides secure land rights and affordable housing opportunities, with 62 houses under construction at two greenfield sites and five more at a brownfield area.

  1. Former Gobabis mayor retires after three terms

    Melba Tjozongoro, who served as Gobabis mayor on the PDM ticket for three terms, has retired from politics following last year's regional elections. In an interview, she reflected on achievements including completion of the Freedom Square project, allocation of 1,100 erfs to community members, Build Together housing, water pipe upgrades, and road bitumination, while acknowledging challenges such as ageing refuse removal fleets and infrastructure maintenance.
