US Embassy Namibia implements visa bonds for business and tourist visas

The News

The US Embassy in Namibia has introduced visa bonds ranging from N$8,000 to N$240,000 for B1/B2 (business/tourist) visa applicants as part of a global pilot programme, calculated based on the estimated cost of immigration enforcement and deportation (approximately N$272,223 per individual). The bonds are refundable if visa terms are met, and do not apply to existing visa holders or student visa applicants.

  1. US embassy: student visas exempt from new Namibia bond

    The US embassy in Windhoek has clarified that while Namibia is among selected countries subject to new visa bond requirements effective 1 January 2026, students travelling on F or M visas and participants in US government-sponsored exchanges on J visas are exempt; the bond requirement applies only to B1/B2 business and tourism visa applicants, who must post US$15,000 or N$250,000, and is refundable if visa terms are met and the traveller departs on time.
