Former agriculture minister Hengari arraigned in bribery case

The News

Ex-minister Mac-Albert Hengari and a co-accused have been transferred to Windhoek Regional Court to face three charges including bribery and allegedly attempting to defeat justice by offering N$222,000 to a woman to withdraw a rape case against him. Both accused are on bail with restrictions and are scheduled to appear in court on 23 April 2026.

    A 46-year-old Windhoek woman has admitted to fatally stabbing her husband's brother after an argument. She appeared in the Magistrate's Court and was remanded in custody; a video of her confession circulated on social media hours after the incident.

  1. Former Nipam employee charged with corruption and fraud

    Katoole Ipinge, a former marketing and communication manager at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management, appeared in court facing 10 corruption charges. He allegedly directed Nipam clients to deposit funds totalling N$175,200 into his personal bank account between June and December 2021, in breach of his official position.

  2. Woman remanded in custody for brother-in-law killing

    Andrea Ferris appeared in Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Tuesday charged with the murder of Abre Maasdorp and attempted murder of her ex-husband Granville Maasdorp following a domestic altercation at Elisenheim. The court remanded her in custody and postponed the matter to 4 June while she applies for legal aid.

  1. Woman remanded in custody over brother-in-law's death

    Andrea Ferris, 46, appeared in Windhoek Magistrate's Court after being accused of murdering her brother-in-law, Abre Maasdorp, 40, on 8 March at a residential community on Windhoek's outskirts. The court remanded her in custody after the state objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the crime and the need to gather further witness statements.

  2. Hengari case postponed pending prosecutor general decision

    The case involving former agriculture minister Mac Hengari and his co-accused has been postponed again to Tuesday, as the prosecutor general has not yet signed off on whether to proceed with prosecution in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court. The state attributed the delay partly to the death of Ondangwa control prosecutor Justine Shiweda.

  4. Windhoek crypto operator loses bid to unfreeze accounts

    A Windhoek High Court judge dismissed the attempt by cryptocurrency investment scheme operator Ruaan Smith to regain access to bank accounts frozen by the Bank of Namibia after the central bank found reason to believe he was conducting unauthorised banking business. The court upheld the Bank of Namibia's November 2021 decision to investigate Smith's accounts and the subsequent freezing of accounts at Nedbank Namibia.

  1. Prosecutors' killers case transferred to Ondangwa Magistrate's Court

    Two men accused in the murder of prosecutor Justine Shiweda have had their case transferred from Windhoek to Ondangwa Magistrate's Court to be tried with their co-accused. Eight people have been arrested over the October 2025 attack on Shiweda, which involved shooting and throwing corrosive acid on his body, allegedly linked to his denial of bail to one of the accused.

  1. Former NIPAM manager arrested and granted bail on corruption charges

    Katoole Ipinge, a former Manager for Marketing and Communications at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management, appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on corruption allegations and was granted bail of N$10,000. According to investigations, N$175,200 was allegedly deposited into his personal bank account, and he faces charges under the Anti-Corruption Act for allegedly using his office for gratification.
