Construction of a planned 500-bed state hospital in Windhoek's Havana settlement has not yet commenced, two years after a 2024 groundbreaking ceremony, despite being scheduled for 2027 completion.     A former magistrate Jaco Kennedy and co-accused Raymond Cloete have failed in applications to be discharged on most counts in a rape trial before Windhoek High Court; Kennedy was discharged on only one of eight counts he sought to dismiss, while Cloete was unsuccessful on all three counts he applied to be discharged from.

  1. Capricorn Foundation donates ultrasound machines to Maxuilili Clinic

    The Ministry of Health and Social Services accepted two portable ultrasound machines valued at N$90,000 each from the Capricorn Foundation for Maxuilili Clinic in Tobias Hainyeko constituency. The donation aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes by enabling ultrasound services at the primary care level and reducing the need for patient referrals to hospitals.

  1. Dr Hafeni Undari: Namibia's first locally trained orthopaedic surgeon

    Dr Hafeni Undari has become Namibia's first orthopaedic surgeon trained entirely within the country, completing his fellowship examination in 2024. His qualification reduces the need for Namibians to seek treatment abroad and strengthens local specialist capacity in public hospitals and rural areas.

  1. HPV vaccine safe, health officials address conspiracy concerns

    Namibian health officials say the human papillomavirus vaccine, introduced in August 2025 and now part of routine immunisation, is safe and effective at preventing cervical cancer, dismissing misinformation circulating among parents about claims that it causes sterility or targets Africans. Officials note that cervical cancer is the second leading cause of death among women in Namibia and can be prevented through vaccination and screening.

  1. Namibia trains first locally-qualified orthopedic specialist

    Dr Hafeni Undari has become Namibia's first orthopedic surgeon fully trained within the country, completing his specialist qualification through COSECSA in 2024 after training at Namibian hospitals. His achievement demonstrates that the country's health system can now produce internationally-standard specialists locally, reducing reliance on foreign-trained doctors and improving patient access to specialist care.
