Former runner-up returns to Miss Namibia pageant

Albertina Haimbala, who finished as first runner-up in the 2023 Miss Namibia pageant and later competed as Miss Earth Namibia in 2024, has returned to compete in the 2026 pageant, aiming to represent Namibia at Miss Universe.

  1. Government cuts funding to state-owned enterprises in 2026/27

    The finance ministry plans to reduce subsidies and capital transfers to state-owned enterprises from N$1.3 billion in 2025/26 to N$615.7 million in 2026/27, citing fiscal consolidation and high public debt. Several SOEs including TransNamib and the Agricultural Bank of Namibia will receive no government transfers, while priority support goes to the National Housing Enterprise and Road Fund Administration.

  1. NBC's Karuaihe-Upi steps down as Miss Namibia Queen Mother

    Umbi Karuaihe-Upi has announced her departure after 35 years with NBC and leadership of the Miss Namibia Organisation, saying it is time to focus on personal projects and live a full life. Under her stewardship since 2023, she transformed Miss Namibia into a movement for change centred on education, housing, and women's empowerment, with contestants achieving international placements including a return to the Miss Universe Top 20 after two decades.

  1. NBC resists paying arbitration award to former dismissed employee

    The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation is refusing to pay a labour commissioner's arbitration award of N$295,000 to former employee Johannes |Gaseb, citing that he owes the company approximately N$300,000 under a housing loan settlement agreement. NBC has filed an urgent court application seeking an interdict against the execution of the award, with the matter due for hearing on 20 March.

  1. Opposition leader Nashinge rejects temporary government vehicle

    Official opposition leader Imms Nashinge has rejected a temporary government vehicle, citing disrespect as junior officials received new cars while he awaits a new fleet promised last year.   1. NBC seeks court order to block property sale in employee dispute

    The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation has applied for a High Court interdict to stop the sale of its property following a dispute with former employee Johannes Gaseb, who won an arbitration award of N$295 026 for unfair dismissal. NBC claims Gaseb owes the company N$186 000 from a 2013 housing loan guarantee and seeks to set off this debt against the amount it owes him.
